One of my most favorite sweet treats of all time is a Chikoo Milkshake! I must have at least one every time I visit my hometown of Bangalore, India. I especially love Chikoo Shakes at Cool Joint, a delicious Sandwich and Shake joint in Jayanagar. They also make the best Grilled Veggie Sandwiches! (Check out my version here).
Unfortunately, Chicago (where I currently live), does not have anything that quite compares. So, I am left to my own devices to come up with a suitable alternative to satisfy my cravings.
It’s also tough to find fresh Chikoo/Sapota in grocery stores here. But, luckily Vadilal sells frozen sapota slices in certain Indian stores. I used those to come up with a version of Chikoo milkshake that may not beat the fresh chikoo shakes in Cool Joint, but does come deliciously close enough!
Chikoo Milkshake

kcalA simple milkshake featuring Chikoo/ Sapota fruit
Ingredients
2.5 cups Sapota/Chikoo Slices (I used two 312 gram packets of Vadilal Frozen Chikoo)
4 cups milk total (I used 2% milk)
2 scoops vanilla ice cream (I used Breyer’s extra creamy vanilla ice cream)
2 tbsp sugar
½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Add sapota slices to a blender.
- Pour in 2 cups of milk and blend. (Note: I used the “crush” function on my blender because my frozen chikoo still had some ice attached. However, if you use fresh chikoo, the “blend” function should be fine.)
- Add 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, along with 1 more cup of milk. Blend some more. (Note: This time, I used the “blend” function.)
- Next, add 2 tbsp sugar and ½ tsp vanilla extract, along with the last cup of milk. Blend one final time.
- Your milkshake should have a thick and creamy, yet flowy consistency. If it appears to be too thick, add more milk or even ice cream if you prefer. You could also add more sugar, if you feel that it isn’t sweet enough for your liking. Transfer to glasses, add a cheery straw, and enjoy! 😊
Notes
- If you are lucky enough to find fresh Chikoo, I highly suggest it! However, it isn’t always available near me. So, I use Vadilal brand frozen Chikoo slices.
- This recipe is inspired by the Chikoo Milkshakes from Cool Joint in Bangalore, but it is my own version of this sweet treat. I hope you love it!
- Vegan Option: Use Dairy-Free Milk (I would suggest Almond Milk) and Dairy-Free Ice Cream.
